Set up Memory MCP in Claude Code
Enable persistent memory for Claude through a knowledge graph. Store and retrieve entities, relations, and observations across sessions.

Locate the config file
Claude Code reads MCP server configuration from the following file:
~/.claude.jsonCreate this file if it does not already exist.

Add the configuration
You can configure Memory MCP using the CLI command or by editing the config file directly.

Set up environment variables
No environment variables needed. Memory MCP works out of the box without any API keys or tokens.

Verify it works
Restart Claude Code. Memory MCP should appear in your MCP server list with 6 tools available.
This server adds approximately 3,090 tokens to your context window for tool definitions.
