Set up Shodan MCP in Claude Desktop

Internet-connected device search, IP reconnaissance, CVE lookups, and DNS intelligence via the Shodan API.

Locate the config file

Claude Desktop reads MCP server configuration from the following file:

~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json

Create this file if it does not already exist.

Add the configuration

Add the following to your Claude Desktop config file:

Shodan MCP requires the following environment variables:

SHODAN_API_KEYRequired

Shodan API key

Verify it works

Restart Claude Desktop. Shodan MCP should appear in your MCP server list with 7 tools available.

This server adds approximately 3,500 tokens to your context window for tool definitions.
