Set up Slack MCP (Official) in Claude Code

Locate the config file

Claude Code reads MCP server configuration from the following file:

~/.claude.json

Create this file if it does not already exist.

Add the configuration

You can configure Slack MCP (Official) using the CLI command or by editing the config file directly.

Option A: CLI command

Set up environment variables

Slack MCP (Official) requires the following environment variables:

SLACK_BOT_TOKENRequired

Slack bot token (xoxb-...)

SLACK_TEAM_IDRequired

Slack team/workspace ID

Verify it works

Restart Claude Code. Slack MCP (Official) should appear in your MCP server list with 8 tools available.

This server adds approximately 4,120 tokens to your context window for tool definitions.
