Set up Bitbucket MCP in Claude Code

Interact with Atlassian Bitbucket workspaces, repositories, pull requests, and code search through the Bitbucket API.

1

Locate the config file

Claude Code reads MCP server configuration from the following file:

~/.claude.json

Create this file if it does not already exist.

2

Add the configuration

You can configure Bitbucket MCP using the CLI command or by editing the config file directly.

Option A: CLI command

bash
claude mcp add bitbucket-mcp -e ATLASSIAN_BITBUCKET_USERNAME=YOUR_ATLASSIAN_BITBUCKET_USERNAME -e ATLASSIAN_BITBUCKET_TOKEN=YOUR_ATLASSIAN_BITBUCKET_TOKEN -- npx -y @aashari/mcp-server-atlassian-bitbucket

Option B: Config file

json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "bitbucket-mcp": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "@aashari/mcp-server-atlassian-bitbucket"
      ],
      "env": {
        "ATLASSIAN_BITBUCKET_USERNAME": "YOUR_ATLASSIAN_BITBUCKET_USERNAME",
        "ATLASSIAN_BITBUCKET_TOKEN": "YOUR_ATLASSIAN_BITBUCKET_TOKEN"
      }
    }
  }
}
3

Set up environment variables

ATLASSIAN_BITBUCKET_USERNAMERequired

Bitbucket username or email

ATLASSIAN_BITBUCKET_TOKENRequired
