Set up BrowserBase MCP in Claude Code

Automate cloud browsers with BrowserBase and Stagehand to navigate pages, extract content, take screenshots, and interact with web elements.

Locate the config file

Claude Code reads MCP server configuration from the following file:

~/.claude.json

Create this file if it does not already exist.

Add the configuration

You can configure BrowserBase MCP using the CLI command or by editing the config file directly.

Option A: CLI command

Set up environment variables

BrowserBase MCP requires the following environment variables:

BROWSERBASE_API_KEYRequired

BrowserBase API key for authentication

BROWSERBASE_PROJECT_IDRequired

BrowserBase project identifier

Verify it works

Restart Claude Code. BrowserBase MCP should appear in your MCP server list with 12 tools available.

This server adds approximately 6,180 tokens to your context window for tool definitions.
