Set up BrowserBase MCP in Windsurf

Automate cloud browsers with BrowserBase and Stagehand to navigate pages, extract content, take screenshots, and interact with web elements.

Locate the config file

Windsurf reads MCP server configuration from the following file:

~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json

Create this file if it does not already exist.

Add the configuration

Add the following to your Windsurf config file:

Set up environment variables

BrowserBase MCP requires the following environment variables:

BROWSERBASE_API_KEYRequired

BrowserBase API key for authentication

BROWSERBASE_PROJECT_IDRequired

BrowserBase project identifier

Verify it works

Restart Windsurf. BrowserBase MCP should appear in your MCP server list with 12 tools available.

This server adds approximately 6,180 tokens to your context window for tool definitions.
