Set up Jina Reader MCP in Claude Desktop

Convert URLs to LLM-friendly markdown, perform web and image searches, and generate embeddings using the Jina AI Reader API.

Locate the config file

Claude Desktop reads MCP server configuration from the following file:

~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json

Create this file if it does not already exist.

Set up environment variables

Jina Reader MCP requires the following environment variables:

JINA_API_KEYRequired

Jina AI API key for authentication

Verify it works

Restart Claude Desktop. Jina Reader MCP should appear in your MCP server list with 8 tools available.

This server adds approximately 4,120 tokens to your context window for tool definitions.
