Set up Grafana MCP in Windsurf

Locate the config file

Windsurf reads MCP server configuration from the following file:

~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json

Create this file if it does not already exist.

Set up environment variables

Grafana MCP requires the following environment variables:

GRAFANA_URLRequired

Grafana instance URL

GRAFANA_API_KEYRequired

Grafana API key or service account token

Verify it works

Restart Windsurf. Grafana MCP should appear in your MCP server list with 43 tools available.

This server adds approximately 22,145 tokens to your context window for tool definitions.
