Set up WordPress MCP in Claude Code

Manage WordPress sites, create and edit posts, pages, and media. Handle themes, plugins, and site settings from your AI editor.

Locate the config file

Claude Code reads MCP server configuration from the following file:

~/.claude.json

Create this file if it does not already exist.

Add the configuration

You can configure WordPress MCP using the CLI command or by editing the config file directly.

Option A: CLI command

Set up environment variables

WordPress MCP requires the following environment variables:

WORDPRESS_URLRequired

WordPress site URL

WORDPRESS_USERNAMERequired

Verify it works

Restart Claude Code. WordPress MCP should appear in your MCP server list with 10 tools available.

This server adds approximately 5,150 tokens to your context window for tool definitions.
